FLEX TIME
Flex Time Schedule

The Nevada State Legislature and the Washoe County School District have recently added new requirements regarding enrichment and intervention time for students. In order to comply with these requirements, Reno High has adopted a new bell schedule. This schedule was created through extensive collaboration with our teaching staff.

The schedule incorporates a 30 minute flex period which will allow students to receive either enrichment or intervention without impacting their regular classroom time. This schedule will be referred to as our Flex Schedule and will be on a six day rotation (see actual bell schedule below).

Each day a 30 minute period added on to the regular class will provide students with enrichment particular to that class or subject. For struggling students that 30 minute period will allow them to receive individualized support and intervention in the following areas:

  • Math
  • Literacy
  • English
  • Social studies
  • Science
  • ELL
  • Computer literacy
  • Organizational skills

For each Flex rotation, specific teachers will be available to assist students in the areas listed above. Passes will be provided to Flex teachers in advance (by the referring teacher) directing students to specific locations to receive assistance.

The 30 minute enrichment time will provide students with meaningful curriculum relevant to their subject but will not count towards their class grade. This will ensure that students utilizing this same 30 minute period for intervention are not penalized by missing required work.

This Flex schedule has been pre-assigned for the entire first semester. The only days we will not be using a Flex schedule will be delayed start days (Professional Development, Testing, Inclement Weather) and Assembly days. The Flex Rotation Calendar is available on our website www.washoe.k12.nv.us/reno under Bell Schedules.

Teachers will be responsible for identifying students needing intervention and for scheduling time for them to receive assistance.
